Should the US Enforce Tighter Restrictions on Chinese Travelers?
Here’s The Scoop
As tensions between the US and China continue to rise, it’s time to ask the question: Should the US enforce tighter restrictions on Chinese travelers?
The latest high-level talks between the two nations come on the heels of a year filled with American panic over alleged Chinese spy balloons, US tech sanctions restricting China’s access to advanced chip-making tools and artificial intelligence processors, and a growing military rivalry.
President Biden’s labeling of Chinese President Xi Jinping as a “dictator” only added fuel to the fire. China’s response? A warning that the US’s pursuit of “decoupling from China” will eventually backfire.
The US has been imposing sanctions on China since 2018, starting with the Trump administration’s ban on US agencies using equipment and services from Chinese telecoms giant Huawei. The Biden administration continued this trend in October 2022, announcing new limits on the sale of semiconductor technology to China.
And now, Secretary of State Blinken is raising concerns about China’s alleged support for Russia’s military industrial base. The US has imposed sanctions against several Chinese businesses for supposedly aiding the Russian military amid the Ukraine conflict – a claim China vehemently denies.
Despite Western pressure to join sanctions on Moscow, China has instead chosen to boost economic cooperation with Russia. In fact, trade turnover between the two countries has grown by 26.6% in the past year, reaching a record $240 billion.
With tensions escalating and China’s refusal to back down, is it time for the US to take a stronger stance and enforce tighter restrictions on Chinese travelers? The safety and security of our nation may depend on it.

Absolutely! Half of them are either spies for Peking or are likely to overstay their visas and go underground to become yet more illegal aliens we neither want nor need.

Why place restrictions. They will just come though the southern or northern boarders. Before trying to place restrictions on legal travelers, they need to close the boarders. And I do mean CLOSE. We need to clean up the nonsense we already have here.
