Do You Believe Biden Should Preemptively Pardon Trump’s Political Foes to Protect Them from Retaliation?
Do You Believe Biden Should Preemptively Pardon Trump’s Political Foes to Protect Them from Retaliation?
Here’s The Scoop
In a stunning move that underscores the deep political divide in our nation, Senate Democrats are reportedly considering urging President Joe Biden to issue preemptive pardons. This unprecedented step aims to shield individuals who might face political retribution from President-elect Donald Trump, should he follow through on his campaign promises to hold accountable those he perceives as adversaries.
Trump, known for his no-nonsense approach and commitment to draining the swamp, has made it clear that he intends to take action against those who have targeted him and his supporters. His potential appointments of Pam Bondi as Attorney General and Kash Patel as FBI Director signal a serious crackdown on political corruption and lawlessness.
Democrats are clearly rattled. They are scrambling to protect their own, fearing that Trump’s administration will finally bring justice to those who have long operated above the law. The panic is palpable, with some Democrats even suggesting that Biden should pardon individuals like House lawmakers who investigated the January 6 events, special counsel Jack Smith, and New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) has been vocal about his concerns, suggesting that Trump’s actions could be dictatorial. He even likened the situation to the 1974 pardon of Richard Nixon, suggesting that preemptive pardons might be necessary to “move on” from the current political climate.
However, not all Democrats are on board. Some, like Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Senator Peter Welch (D-VT), are urging caution. They argue that pardoning individuals who haven’t been charged with crimes would set a dangerous precedent and further politicize the Department of Justice.
It’s clear that Democrats are deeply worried about Trump’s return to power and the implications it could have for those who have long enjoyed immunity from prosecution. The idea of preemptive pardons highlights the fear and uncertainty gripping the left as they face the prospect of a Trump administration determined to restore law and order.
As the political drama unfolds, one thing is certain: President Trump’s commitment to holding the powerful accountable is shaking the establishment to its core. The American people are watching closely, eager to see if justice will finally be served.

They’d only want preemptive pardons if they themselves were guilty of something. While people can be investigated if there’s a suspicion of crimes committed, Republicans, unlike Democrats, don’t come up with the crime after the the investigation

A “pardon” is supposed to be used to address a miscarriage of justice: this presupposes that the regular course of justice has already run. In other words, you cannot “pardon” anyone who has not already been convicted of a crime. Because the President has a “pardon” power but not an “immunity” power a “preemptive pardon” is illegal nonsense. “Immunity” is only offered to witnesses who may have also committed a crime, in order to secure their testimony in service of the interests of justice and the greater good.
